DESCRIPTION: APW - Elgin, Father Time, Grade 274, 21J, 18S, coin silver HC recase with nickel cuvette, white enamel DS dial, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, diamond endstone, ornate nickel damascene, s#11587554. A rare watch, the total production of the "Father Time" marked version of the Grade 274 is believed to be only 321 made. Total production of the Grade 274 in all variants is 4000 made and this total is believed to be distributed as 2229 made without grade name marking, 1363 made marked "Veritas," 321 made marked "Father Time," and 87 made marked "B.W. Raymond."
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, some typical mild micro-fine scratches, mild oxide to areas of steelwork; dial with hl below seconds-register near 6, hl above seconds-register, tiny flake to lower-left rim of seconds-register hole; fine hands, oxide to tip of minute; case with some play at front hinge and front opening wide of 90 degrees (to approximately 110 degrees), central segment of front hinge tube with some metal loss where lift spring contacts and lift spring with only partial function as it only opens lid approximately halfway and as it allows front to tilt back a bit past halfway to closed with gravity, case shows light wear, protruding dent at front center, reduced engine turning and engraving detail; tight bow, crown shows light wear; good glass crystal.
